Gateway is directed by Rabbi Jonny Hughes who is a truly unique rabbinic speaker.
This is due to the combination of his extraordinary life story and depth of rabbinic knowledge and experience. Born and raised in Reading Berkshire, as a teenager Rabbi Jonny was signed by both the Swindon Town and Reading Football Club Academies. After hanging up his boots, Jonny then graduated with a prestigious law degree from University College London (UCL).
After unexpectedly discovering his Jewish heritage at law school, he underwent a dramatic spiritual transformation. Having graduated, he was accepted on a scholarship to attend lectures at the world-renowned Midrash Shmuel Talmudical College in Jerusalem. There, he studied full-time for eight years, upon which he was awarded rabbinical ordination.
Rabbi Jonny’s ministerial career was fast-tracked and following four years at London synagogues in Hendon and Richmond, he took up his current post at Radlett Synagogue in Hertfordshire in December 2015. He is a rabbi to over 1200 people, comprising over 600 families.
Rabbi Jonny has authored two acclaimed books on Jewish law which have sold in nine countries worldwide. He is also a songwriter and guitarist with two albums to his name. A regular broadcaster on BBC radio, In addition to schools, Rabbi Jonny also speaks at banks, law firms and government offices in the City of London and the West End. He is married to Chana and they have four children.
